Group Projects
Outside of periodic blog posts, AAA also completes projects on occasion. This page highlights our member's hard work and dedication to expressing their statistical analysis skills effectively. Scroll through our projects to see some of AAA's best work so far!
NHL Stat Comparison Assignment
Each AAA Group was tasked with comparing two unknown NHL players, purely based on their stats. The purpose of not telling the members who each player was, was to eliminate any previous narrative biases they may have had and to see how their statistical conclusions relate to their overall conclusions in terms of how they evaluate player ability. Though they did not know at the time, the groups were comparing Sydney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin at different parts of their respective careers. Through comparing stats, each group unanimously agreed that Crosby was the better player. Displayed below is Group 1's presentation. They compared Crosby and Ovechkin's rookie seasons. Feel free to look through their slideshow where they explain how they came to their conclusion!
NBA Stat Comparison Assignment
Each AAA Group was tasked with comparing two unknown NBA players, purely based on their stats. The purpose of not telling the members who each player was, was to eliminate any previous narrative biases they may have had and to see how their statistical conclusions relate to their overall conclusions in terms of how they evaluate player ability. Though they did not know at the time, the groups were either comparing Russell Westbrook and James Harden (2016-17), Lebron James and Derrick Rose (2010-2011), or Michael Jordan and Karl Malone (1996-97). Displayed below is Group 3's presentation. They compared Jordan and Malone, the year where they were both the leading candidates for the MVP award. Feel free to look through their slideshow where they explain how they came to their conclusion!
